This is volume one of two books which covers the history of music from the beginning to 1800. This volume complete in itself covers the period up to the beginning of the seventeenth century. It has more than 200 representative examples, under 181 seperate headings. The bulk of the book is the musical scores many previously unpublished, this is accompanied by an explanatory commentory and bibliography. 258 pp jacket has some pieces missing, largest 2 .5 cms deep tapering up to 0 .5 cms deep for alength of 12 cms other tiny pieces missing.
